FAQ: Doula Services❓

Q1. What’s the difference between the Essential, Comprehensive and Enhanced birth packages?

Answer:
All three birth packages provide continuous labour support, antenatal preparation, and immediate postnatal care. The difference is in how much preparation, availability, and early postnatal support YOU would like around your birth experience.

  • Essential focuses on streamlined, practical preparation and strong birth presence.

  • Comprehensive adds more in-depth antenatal preparation, messaging support, and additional postnatal time.

  • Enhanced includes priority access, further preparation sessions, and extra postnatal follow-up to support the early transition into life with your baby.

This tiered structure allows you to choose the level of support that best fits your needs, confidence, and budget.

Q2. What happens during antenatal sessions in a birth package?

Answer:
Antenatal sessions are where we really begin preparing you and your partner for labour in a way that feels calm, informed, and manageable.

We can start these sessions as early as you like, with many families choosing to begin from around 32 to 34 weeks (so they may align with your midwifery appointments). Ordinarily, we would meet every week and/or fortnight.

During our time together, I will support you with understanding birth physiology, decision-making, comfort measures, partner support, emotional preparation, and responses for different birth scenarios. We can also explore practical tools and coping strategies that feel right for you.

The goal is to help you feel informed, confident, and supported heading into labour.

Q3. What does “on-call support” mean?

Answer:

On-call support means I am available to you 24 hours a day throughout your agreed on-call window, ready to attend when labour begins!

We will stay in close contact as things develop, and I will join you at the appropriate time to provide continuous emotional and physical support throughout your labour.

This ensures you are never navigating labour alone.

Q4. Is birth support only for the day of labour?

Answer:
No not at all. Much of the value comes from preparation beforehand and the reassurance of knowing I am available in the weeks leading up to your birth. Labour support is open-ended and adapts to how your birth uniquely unfolds.

Q5. Do you support hospital, home, induction or caesarean births?

Answer:
Yes, I do. Support is centred around your choices and circumstances; whether your baby is born at home, in hospital, following an induction, or ‘planned’ or unplanned caesarean (C-Section). My role is to provide steady emotional and practical presence throughout.

Q6. What is included in immediate postnatal or “golden hour” support?

Answer:
The golden hour refers to the first uninterrupted period after birth where you and your baby begin bonding and adjusting to one another. This bonding period can be a crucial time, as its proven to help stabilise things like; your baby’s heart rate, breathing and temperature!

During this time, I will help protect your space so you can focus on meeting your baby. I can support with early feeding, positioning and attachment, comfort measures, emotional reassurance, and practical needs such as helping you get settled, offering partner guidance, or ensuring your environment feels calm and supported.

Extended postnatal support varies depending on the package you choose.

Q7. When should I book doula support?

Answer:
Many families choose to book in the second or early third trimester so there is time for preparation and for us to build a relationship before birth.

Availability can fill quickly, but I always try to be as flexible as possible; so please feel free to reach out at any stage if you would like more information or to explore your options.

Q8. Can packages be adjusted to fit a budget?

Answer:
Yes. I offer different levels of support so you can choose an option that feels manageable, while still receiving meaningful care.

Q9. Do you offer payment plans?

Answer:
Yes. Payment can be spread across pregnancy to make planning easier. We can discuss options during consultation.
